In the 1990-1991 season, Manchester United reached the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, facing FC Barcelona. The match took place on May 15, 1991, at the Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Les Sealey, who had been the backup goalkeeper for much of the season, was unexpectedly called upon to start the final due to an injury to Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper, Jim Leighton.
Sealey put in a heroic performance in the final, making several crucial saves to keep Barcelona at bay. Despite Manchester United being underdogs, they managed to beat Barcelona 1-1 with Mark Hughes scoring United’s goals.
