Expectations were high, but Inter Milan disappointed in the league, finishing only 13th, close to relegation to Serie B. Fortunately, Inter’s season was saved by a splendid run in the UEFA Cup.
The Interristes won the competition by beating Austria Salzburg in a two-legged final (1-0, 1-0). Failing to shine in the league, Dennis Bergkamp made up for it by scoring 8 goals in the UEFA Cup.
Uruguayan Sosa finishes as Inter’s top scorer, while captain Bergomi continues to be a key figure in Milan’s central defense.
